Discussion

DOT PREMIX is an older generation chemical anticoccidial that acts late in the life cycle of the coccidia and, therefore, has the potential to allow the bird to develop some degree of natural immunity against the coccidia. For this reason DOT PREMIX is well suited for use in layer pullets and broiler breeders in rear.

Although the mode of action is not certain, it is believed that olquindox acts by suppressing a wide range of bacteria present in the gut of the pig. This reduces the “nutrient robbing effect” of non-pathogenic (non-disease causing) bacteria and directly inhibits organisms such as the so called “campylobacter” that cause proliferative enteropathy.

There is also evidence that the reduced bacterial challenge on the gut wall occurring as a result of the use of olaquindox causes a thinning of the intestinal wall, thus enhancing the absorption and utilisation of nutrients.
