MICROVIT™ E PROMIX 50
Indications
To prevent deficiencies of vitamin E in all classes of livestock.
Composition
500 mg / g vitamin E (dl-alpha-tocopheryl acetate),
Carrier (expanded silica).
Directions for use
The precise dietary requirement of vitamin E will be dependent on the composition of the feed and the particular animal species involved. To ensure optimum animal performance BEC recommend that a professional animal nutritionist is consulted when formulation animal rations.
Discussion
MICROVIT™ E PROMIX 50 is a stabilised source of vitamin E for use exclusively in the manufacture of animal feed products. The product consists of pure vitamin E oil adsorbed onto an expanded silica carrier for excellent Mixability™ and handling characteristics.
Most of the nutritional effects of vitamin E are consistent with its role as a biological ant-oxidant. In this regard, vitamin E is thought to have basic functional importance in the maintenance of membrane integrity in virtually all cells of the body. Its anti-oxidant function involves the reduction of free radicals within the body, thus protecting against the potentially deleterious reactions of such highly reactive oxidising compounds. Because it is hydrophobic and, therefore, distributed in membranes, vitamin E serves as a lipid soluble biological anti-oxidant with high specificity for loci of potential lipid peroxidation.
However anti-oxidant function involves a multicomponent system which includes vitamin E and a group of mealloenzymes which collectively block the initiation of peroxidation from within the soluble phase of the cell. Those enzymes include the superoxide dismutase and catalase and glutathione peroxidase. These enzymes contain inorganic compounds such as zinc, manganese, copper and selenium. The role of selenium in glutathione peroxidase is its only known biochemical function. Thus there are certain nutritional sparing interrelationships such as between vitamin E and selenium which influence the requirements of each nutrient.
The clinical manifestations of vitamin E deficiency vary considerably between species, but in general involve the neuromuscular, vascular, immune and reproductive systems. The signs of vitamin E deficiency are manifestations of membrane dysfunction caused by oxidative degradation of polyunsaturated membranes and/or the disruption of other critical cellular processes.
