On the 3rd December 2012 BEC presented at the Annual Pet Food Industry Technical Seminar. The event featured several presentations which gave insight and updates in the industry as well as highlighting important aspects of companion animal nutrition. BEC’s presentation dealt with managing obesity in companion animals with the use of Opticell Eubiotic Fibre.

Companion animal obesity is becoming a significant issue in animal health. A study conducted by the University of Sydney has revealed that 33.5% of dogs are overweight and 7.6% are obese from a sample of 2,661.

Following an audit and analysis of our integrated management and quality systems, we have now been awarded accreditation by the Feed Ingredients and Additives Association of Australia (FIAAA) to their Code of Practice.

Below is a summary of data from the USDA report issued Aug 10, 2012. Report was bullish for corn, soybeans and wheat as demand switches from corn to wheat. The initial reaction was a hard run up followed by a sell off. Prices have since recovered those losses and basis is firming signifying good commercial demand in a market that has tighter supply.

Soybean crush margins are positive in USA and China. China has concerns about food price inflation, which will support further buying of beans from China wanting to contain inflation internally
